ASEAN Working Group on Forest Product Development (AWGFPD)

The ASEAN Working Group on Forest Products Development (AWG-FPD), previously known as the ASEAN Experts Group on Forest Product Development (AEG-FPD), subsumed the works of ASEAN Working Group on a Pan-ASEAN Timber Certification Initiative (AWG PATCI) and ASEAN Experts Group on Herbal and Medical Plants (AEG-HMP). It was agreed during the 18th Meeting of ASOF that was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 6-8 August 2015. 

It aims to enhance ASEAN cooperation in forest products development and the alignment of national standards and testing protocols in accordance with International Standard; enhance intra- and extra-ASEAN trade and competitiveness of ASEAN forest products including through inter-alia timber certification; support the development of medicinal and aromatic plant industries, including their conservation and sustainable use; and promote co-operation with ASEAN Dialogue Partners, regional and international organizations and the private sector in marketing and image building for ASEAN forest products. 

It will continue the modality of AEG-FPD particularly on the plan of action, rotation of hosting and focal points. Indonesia serve as the lead country.

- Participate in the deliberations and discussions of guidelines, policies, and programs of the working group --- The Plan of Action (POA) for ASEAN Cooperation on Forest Products Development (2016-2020) was endorsed by the 20th Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Forestry (ASOF) held on 27-28 July 2017. It specifies the action programmes per strategic thrust under the Strategic Plan of Action (SPA) for ASEAN Cooperation in FAF (2016-2025) related to forest products development. Updates

- Hosted and chaired the 22nd Meeting of AWGFPD on 15-16 July 2019 in Makati City, Metro Manila, Philippines.
- Reviewed and endorsed to ASOF the development of the "Regional Voluntary Code of Conduct for Forest and Timber Companies in ASEAN" as a key deliverable of the ASEAN Cooperation in Forestry for year 2019.
- Endorsed to ASOF the proposal, "Study on Trade of Selected Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) in ASEAN."
- Supported the joint proposal developed by Indonesia and the Philippines on "Training on Wood and Plant identification using Several Techniques."
