Updates

In 2017, the Mining Task Force endorsed the action plan for the mining industry to contribute to regional economic integration and sustainable and inclusive growth in the APEC Region.

According to Mr. Rodrigo Urquiza, Head of the International Affairs Unit, Ministry of Mining, Chile and APEC MTF Chairperson, the task force's Terms of Reference (TOR) includes a sunset clause which is two years starting 2017. At the expiration, the mandate and TOR shall be reviewed and a recommendation on its renewal shall be taken up with the Senior Officials for approval.

The issue was part of the discussion during the First Senior Officials' Meeting and Related Meetings (SOM 1) on 7-8 March 2019 in Santiago, Chile. To date, getting the consensus on the renewal of the mandate or the new TOR of the APEC MTF is still ongoing.
